How it helps
Use it for a focused task
This workspace lets you pick a vintage magazine advertisement from a small curated set spanning the 1920s through the 1960s. You can click anywhere on the ad to place numbered markers, then assign each marker a technique tag from a preset list (fear appeal, bandwagon, testimonial, scientific claim, sex appeal, nostalgia, snob appeal, plain folks, glittering generality, card stacking).
Each marker opens a small note field where you can write your own observation. A running technique count updates as you work.
You can save your annotations to your browser, export them as a text summary, print the annotated ad, or share your work via a copyable link. The supporting content below the workspace explains common advertising techniques by decade, gives examples from real vintage ads, and offers tips for spotting rhetorical patterns.
